Hello all! I hope your mid-week is going as well as mine! It’s been a grip so I decided to come back for Woman Crush Wednesday! This is usually my more consistent post subject so it made sense to start back with one of these posts. This weeks WCW is going to be Yoruichi Shihouin from the Bleach series. I’m hoping you have seen this anime so you know a little bit about who I’m talking about. If not, you can find the series on Hulu, and Crunchyroll. I highly recommend watching this series…it’s one of the classics. This time around, I won’t give a short synopsis of the overall anime…I’m giving you an assignment if you haven’t seen it already! (I typed this in my teacher voice).
Yoruichi Shihouin is of royal birth and a former captain of the second division of the Gotei 13. She is beyond strong and has a personality that is different than most denizens of the Soul Society. Most of the time, she’s in cat form (with a male voice), which is very off-putting to other characters. She’s at least 110 years old but doesn’t look a day over 103.
Why is she this weeks WCW? Because of her resilience, intelligence and strength in a popular anime. She is also one of the few characters of color you will see in an anime which I can always use more of. It’s great to have a character that you don’t have to explain that it’s the “black version of *insert anime character here*, even though that doesn’t matter these days.
Even though she isn’t considered a major character, Yoruichi is a very interesting and fun character in Bleach. She commands the scenes she’s in and you never forget she’s usually one of the more powerful characters in the show.
