30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day 9

Saddest Game scene

Welcome back Blerders and Nerders! Hope your week has gone well and found some solace in some interesting content (hint hint). Today for the 30 Day Video Game Challenge, we tug on some eye strings. Trying to decide on the SADDEST game scene would exhaust an unnecessary amount of tears would be shed and it’ll be hard to narrow down the video game scenes one would deem the saddest. I’ve already talked about a character in this series but this scene made me very emotional. It meant a lot, especially after watching/playing through everything he went through. One of the scenes that got to me was the last fight between Naked Snake and Big Boss.

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR METAL GEAR SOLID 3!

After everything Naked Snake went through…the broken body, the betrayals, the injured spirit, and the environment. Big Boss was the woman that trained Snake and made him who he was only to see her turn supposed traitor. And then Eva turned on him as well (well kind of). All of this happened and when he made it back stateside, he had to shake hands and take pictures with the people who essentially gave that mission to Big Boss. After playing Metal Gear Solid V, I can see how he got to that point because of the ending of this particular game.

Salute to the real “Big Boss”

Metal Gear Solid 3 is a classic Metal Gear game. It also pushed the envelope on what a cinematic game was. Great story (sometimes confusing), awesome action along with an element of survival that you don’t see often in games. While this is not one of the saddest game scenes ever, it is certainly heavy. What are some of the saddest game scenes you have played through? Let me know in the comments. Wipe those tears and join me tomorrow. Until next time, Nerd out!

  1. That’s a good scene. Aeris’s death scene would easily be a top pick, too. I’d also say Kyosuke’s ending in Project Justice and to a much lesser extent, the “death” of E-102 Gamma from Sonic Adventure.
