NNB: Gamescom! A short review.

Gamescom was this past week (I missed SO much of it), so I will be highlighting the items that stuck out to me. So lets get started.

Fear Effect Reinvented

Now I’m not sure how many of you remember this PS1 cyber-chiller classic but those who do will be happy to hear this. Fear Effect is getting a remake (not a remaster) in 2018. And it will be releasing on PS4, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch to kind of do a huge fan service for those who have played it before and obtain new fans. What will be interesting is how they will handle to sexist elements involved in the first two games in the remake. If they keep the same elements, then this will fail before it even starts.

Age of Empires IV

Now this is something I’m super excited for. I absolutely love the Age of Empires series. This series was always seen as a competitor to Civilization because of the city/empire building aspect of the game. What made AoE different was the 3D figures and the ability to actually see your workers chop wood, or mine ore for the resources you needed to build your society. Age of Empires 2 was the most popular of series for deep history and how much you could do with different units and also the cheat codes (unstoppable Dodge Viper). Still no info on when it is expected to come out but there is a remaster coming October 19th.

The Crew 2

This only interested me because I’m curious as to why they are releasing a sequel after the first game was more or less a blunder. Ubisoft says they put a ton of effort to make this game substantially better than the first so we shall see if this pays off. The Crew 2 is due in stores March 16th, 2018. a896a4b878004f23-600x400

Secret of Mana remake

Now this was terrific surprise to see. The original game was released in 1993 on the Super Nintendo. This game is getting a complete 3D remake for the PS4, PC and PS Vita and is due out on February 15th, 2018. Now if your expecting a COMPLETE visual makeover, then you will be disappointed but not completely. It’ll look better than the 1993 version at least. I’m not sure if I will pre-order but I may get it at some point and play it because I have a love for RPGs.

Xbox One still a tough sell

Ask me if I didn’t expect this. Let me answer that for you, I did. I’m not saying Xbox is a terrible system but it’s not a true “Gaming” machine (at least in my opinion). Simply, Microsoft hasn’t convincingly sold the console as a must-own platform, because as beautiful as Forza Motorsport 7 looks, where the Hell are the other games?

Microsoft “In Talks” with Sony

We’ve heard this before. Sony doesn’t want to play nice with any other platforms. But this year it seems that could be changing. During Gamescom, Sony confirmed that they were in talks with Microsoft about cross-play. “Xbox Head of Marketing Aaron Greenberg stated, “We’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it.” There was nothing approaching a confirmation that it will definitely happen, of course, but it’s encouraging all the same.”

I really hope Sony doesn’t drop the ball on this and makes this a reality. I understand that they think this will keep people from buying Sony products but I don’t that will be the case. But no one will know until it happens.

That is all I’m covering (for now) about Gamescom. I’m going to look through some of the releases and share what I find interesting. If you have something that interested your during Gamescom, share them in the comments! I would gladly have conversations with you about what was seen. Or if you have any suggestions for posts you would like to see, then leave those as well and I can work on that. Expect more posts aside from my usual weekly posts coming soon. Until next time Nerders, Nerd out!
