FLCL 2 (and 3)

Who doesn’t appreciate nonsensical shows? I for one, Love them. FLCL or Fooly Cooly was one of those visually stimulating shows that didn’t make too much sense. It has a plot (I think) and some great character development. Here is the plot as written by Anime News Network: “Naota Nandaba is an ordinary sixth grader living in a city where nothing amazing ever seems to happen. After his brother Tasuku leaves town to play baseball in America, Naota takes it upon himself to look after everything Tasuku left behind—from his top bunk bed to his ex-girlfriend Mamimi Samejima, who hasn’t stopped clinging to Naota since Tasuku left.

Little does Naota know, however, that his mundane existence is on the verge of being changed forever: enter Haruko Haruhara, a Vespa-riding, bass guitar-wielding, pink-haired psychopath whose first encounter with Naota leaves him with tire tracks on his back and a giant horn on his head. Though all he wants is some peace and quiet, when Haruko takes up residence at his parents’ home, Naota finds himself dragged into the heart of the greatest battle for supremacy that Earth—and quite possibly the entire universe—has ever seen.”

Looks like a great plot huh? You really don’t get the “Greatest battle for supremacy” feel when you are watching the show so it kind of forces you to go back and really pay attention…which I did years after watching the first time. Most people who enjoyed this anime have been wanting, wishing for another season and Toonami hits with a trailer for not one but TWO new seasons of FLCL  in late 2017/ early 2018. By the look of the trailer, this may make more sense than the original but seeing Haruko in it means nonsense will ensue.

I like the idea of them going a more serious route with the anime. So many questions were left after the first short season. I will update this post with more info as a I get it so stay tuned.

UPDATE: Here is the synopsis for the upcoming season 2 and 3″

“In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock. But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?

All of these questions and more will be answered in the new season of the series, which is set to premiere in late 2017/early 2018 on Adult Swim.” Source: Megann Peters
